When only God can make a difference

520 kids. That’s how many there are at Carrington Heights Primary School.

Most of them come from poor, uneducated, unchurched families. Academically, many of them are behind; spiritually many of them are lost; individually, many of them need love and guidance.

I have prayed and thought about how I can make a difference in the lives of these kids… and I’ve decided that I CANNOT. Not in all of their lives anyways. ONLY GOD CAN do that. Only God can send enough workers into His harvest field to reach all the people and meet all the needs. My job isn’t to increase the harvest or even measure the intake- my job is just to work in the field where He has placed me.

With that in mind, I have decided that this year at Carrington, I am going to focus on 29 kids. That’s a pretty small slice of the 520 who are in the school, and sometimes it feels like it is not nearly enough. But I’m trusting God to make the difference! The 29 that I have are those who have been chosen as grade 7 monitors. They have been identified as leaders or potential leaders who want to grow. This, to me, seems to be the place to start. I’m meeting with 7 or 8 of them each day from Monday to Thursday with the aim of introducing them to Jesus Christ and sharing with them some of the leadership principles that He taught His followers.
These are the names of the kids and the days that I meet with them:

Monday- Simiso, Hlengiwe, Owami, Sibonile, Amanda, Londeka, Olona, Nhlakanipo

Tuesday- Lethiwe, Siyanda, Zukiswa, Zakithi, Ayanda, Thabile, Nosipho

Wednesday- Sanelisiwe, Njabulo, Thembalethu, Noxolo, Londiwe, Sinazo, Lulama

Thursday- Philani, Chinyelu, Sinethemba, Nosipho, Nolwazi, Tsepiso, Nhlakanipho

Some of these names you may recognize as kids that I have asked you to pray for in the past, particularly Olona. I did not select these students myself, but I do believe that these are the students that God has planned for me to work with this year and I’m excited to see what He will accomplish through them.

God has already blessed by giving me some great help in this ministry. A couple of the other young adults from church are working with me, getting to know the kids and building relationships in the school. As God would have it, one of the ladies who teaches Sunday School in our church is enrolled in a local teachers college and they have placed her at Carrington to do student teaching every other week throughout the whole year, so she is also able to be involved and invest in these students.

What we are doing is little enough, that is true. But little is much when God is in it. So please pray for God’s abundant blessing at Carrington Heights.

“Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself unless it abides in the vine, so neither can you unless you abide in Me… My Father is glorified by this, that you bear much fruit…” ~Jesus

Hello Ben, I would like to

Hello Ben,
I would like to have more of this same mindset as you have. My job isn’t to increase the harvest or even measure the intake- my job is just to work in the field where He has placed me. You have to hear Jesus' voice to know what field he has placed you in. Once you are in the field where he has you you need the tools he has provided for you. In II Timothy 3:16-17 All scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. In Hebrews 7:25 Therefore he is able to save completely those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them. Brother's and sister's prayers in the Lord are wonderful but there is only one, Christ Jesus, who lives to intercede for your 29 kids. I love what you are doing you are thoroughly equipped in Jesus' name.

How exciting to hear about

How exciting to hear about all the boys and girls you will be able to minister to at Carrington! What a wonderful opportunity God has given you there.

Who is the student teacher? Do I know her?

Hi Ben! I will be praying

Hi Ben!
I will be praying for you and your boys (I printed their names out, I wish I could pronounce their names.
You know that all that you do with these young men will be passed on to the people they come in contact with.
Sending Love to you all.
Aline
